Mining Engineering encompasses all the processes involved in extracting ores from the earth. This includes activities such as deposit evaluation, mine design, mine production, and waste management.
The Mining Engineering specialisation at UWA integrates detailed knowledge of surface mining, underground mining, rock mechanics and mine design with exposure to geology, data science, finance, and management. You will acquire the skills needed to analyse and design the most suitable mining method for a project, the best people and equipment to use, and the most appropriate applications of the latest technologies. After graduation you will be ideally placed to pursue an exciting, well-rewarded career, able to travel throughout the world
As a mining engineer you may work as a technical specialist with a service company, as a consultant (e.g. blasting, software), in mine management and production, in banking or finance, inresearch, or in the government sector.
